Closely involved with the Faculty of Science and Information Technology, The Tom Farrell Institute for the Environment draws together interdisciplinary expertise from across the University of Newcastle, engaging with the community in an integrated way while coordinating a whole of University approach. The high level of environmental expertise offered ranges across biodiversity, built environment, climate change, environmental monitoring, green waste management, estuarine and marine, primary industry, sustainability, tourism, water and wetland management.
The NSW Institute for Frontier Geoscience (NSW IFG) is a partnership of the University of Newcastle with the NSW Department of Trade and Investment, Regional Infrastructure and Services and Doyles Creek Mining and is focused on research and teaching in Earth Sciences. The Institute leverages the strengths of the University in minerals processing and exploration, carbon capture & storage, geology and geochemistry. It will provide teaching, leadership, and research facilities to contribute to the sustainability and viability of the minerals and mining sectors in NSW.
