Be part of The Conversation
The Conversation is an independent source of news that features articles written by academics for the public and was developed in response to the state of media and its disconnect from science.
They are an online presence that acts as journalists on behalf of science. Guest commentary is featured on a daily basis and is written by academics from Universities all over Australia and now the UK. Their target audience is the general public and The Conversation is a channel used to inform the public on issues backed by scientific credibility.
Authors have complete sign off on an article and simply have to register online to be part of the community. You can get in touch with The Conversation directly to pitch an idea or you can simply interact with the website and contribute to the online discussions that stem from an article.
Any articles submitted may be picked up by the media and re-used in their original form. Academics are asked to write about only their area of research or an area they have researched in the past.
Links to journals and evidence is encouraged throughout your article, which is generally limited to 800 or 1000 words plus an accompanying image.
For an example, please view Laureate Professor Jon Borwein’s latest article on University funding.
The Conversation is a chance to develop contacts and engage in discussions with readers through commentary at the bottom of each article. It is an excellent opportunity for public engagement and exposure so academic staff are encouraged to get involved with The Conversation.
