Science at the Shine Dome

Science at the Shine Dome was held in Canberra last month by the Australian Academy of Science to showcase the latest research being carried out within Australia.

The three day event included a special program for Early Career Researchers to learn about the latest research across a range of science disciplines and participate in career-development workshops.

Two faculty staff members, Andy Eamens and Lauren Harms, were nominated to attend the event.

While Andy could not attend due to teaching commitments, Lauren said the conference was an excellent opportunity to learn about the research taking place outside her area of expertise which is Neuroscience and mental health.

“It was a fantastic opportunity to meet some of the most successful Australian scientists and learn about their work and get some helpful career advice. I attended a grant-writing workshop which left me with some extremely good tips that will hopefully contribute towards getting a grant in the near future,” she said.

“I felt very happy that the Faculty of Science and IT nominated me to attend the event. It was a fantastic opportunity and I’m very thankful I had the chance to learn about some great science and meet some of Australia’s leading scientists.” she added.
