Science in the Pub
Staff and students are invited to attend the launch of Science in the Pub at the Grand Hotel on Wednesday February 13 for a chance to discuss new technologies and their impact with researchers from the University of Newcastle, including Laureate Professor John Aitken.
The session is the first of nine to be held in regional centres around Australia and is designed to bring together community and researchers to discuss new technologies and their impact.
Together Laureate Professor John Aitken, Professor Rodney Scott and Professor Pablo Moscato will form the panel on the night and discuss topics such as nanotechnology, biotechnology and bio-ethics.
The Minister for Industry and Innovation, Greg Combet, has encouraged the event and highlighted the opportunity for members of the public to engage with scientists about the issues impacting their lives.
“Audience members can express their concerns, their hopes and fears about technologies and have meaningful conversations with scientists about the issues,” he said.
The event will be a casual and informal discussion with the chance to talk one-on-one with the researchers and ask questions. Students, staff and the community are welcome to attend the event which is free of charge.
The MC for the evening will be ABC 1233’s morning presenter, Jill Emberson.
