National Science Week 2013 predicted to be bigger and better

Applications for National Science Week were opened earlier this month by Minister for Science and Research, Senator Chris Evans, who promises next year's event will be bigger and better than 2012.

The Gillard Government plans to spend $500,000 through the Inspiring Australia initiative and will provide grants of up to $25,000 to organisations and community groups to help develop events for next year's annual event.

During a visit to Southern Cross University, Senator Evans stated the importance of the event for encouraging future careers in science.

“The Gillard Government is committed to encouraging the next generation of Australians to choose a career in science, mathematics, engineering and research and National Science Week gives them a chance to have a practical hands-on experience of science for themselves,” said Senator Evans.

Roughly 1.4 million Australians attended more that 1000 events across the country during this year’s National Science Week.

More information and guidelines for applicants can be found on the National Science Week website.
