Bill's Blog - October Issue

It has been four months since the initial launch of Micro-byte in July and in that time the Faculty has been at its busiest period for the year. Most of our major events have now taken place, including the Open Days, Honours and Research Expos and the inaugural Industry Showcase. These events are crucial to promoting our programs and capabilities to students and external stakeholders.

Staff and students within the Faculty have also received a number of achievements in research during this time. Associate Professor Scott Brown, Associate Professor Rob Atkin and Dr Ian Grainge were awarded prestigious Future Fellowships which is testament to the quality of cutting-edge researchers within the Faculty.

In this issue you will also find a profile on PhD student, Vincent Candrawinata, who won the University Three Minute Thesis Final last month for his research within Food Science and Human Nutrition. He competed in the Trans-Tasman semi-final round on Thursday October 11 which was a major accomplishment.

Graduation also took place earlier in the month which recognised the achievements of 153 Undergraduate, Post Graduate and RHD students within the Faculty. Faculty medals were also awarded to high achievers including a number of Honours students across our Environmental Science and Management, Natural History Illustration, Science and Information Technology programs.

I am delighted with the Faculty’s achievements over the past four months and look forward to adding to these as we plan our strategies for 2013 and beyond.
