Tales from Open Day 2012
After months of preparation and planning, the 2012 Open Days have come and gone in a flash with a record number of students passing through the doors.
Over 5500 potential students attended Callaghan Open Day all seeking information about degrees and life at the University of Newcastle. Those who visited the Faculty of Science and IT stand were treated to demonstrations that ranged from displays by Design students to indulging in a stick of lime-green fairy floss all in the name of Physics.
A wide range of enquiries were made throughout the day and were all expertly handled by the staff and students manning the stands in the Great Hall and delivering presentations across campus. The Faculty disciplines were showcased in various mediums which included ABC 1233 radio staff providing experience and examples of broadcasting, taking students through the Psychology training clinic and the SMART team making a messy yet impressive demonstration of the wonders of science.
Those who attended the Central Coast Open Day were treated an impressive display from Marine Science. The interactive Macro-invertebrate station had both parents and students lining up to examine the microscopic samples that were pulled from the campus creek.
With the lime-green balloons deflated for another year, the promise of a bigger and better 2013 looms on the horizon. We would like to extend a very big thank you to every staff member and student who helped make the events as successful as they were and we look forward to hearing any feedback or suggestions you may have for next year.
