Phillip McIntyre launches into the publishing sphere
Dr Phillip McIntyre has recently celebrated the publication of his first scholarly book, Creativity and Cultural Production: Issues for Media Practice. A book launch was held on June 21 in the ICT studio, bringing over two years of hard work to a close. Vice Chancellor Caroline McMillen was in attendance, along with guest speaker John Doyle (Roy Slaven) and Deputy Head of Faculty, Fred Menk, to congratulate Phillip on his achievement.
With an extensive career background that includes working as a music journalist, video and record producer, songwriter and musician, Phillip also boasts 12 years of teaching experience. As Head of Discipline for Communication and Media, a lot of the issues raised in Phillip’s book were sparked from his own research while undertaking his PhD.
The book combines interdisciplinary research from across psychology, sociology, communication and cultural studies to examine the latest research into the phenomenon of creativity and applies this to a number of media forms, bringing a new understanding to contemporary media practices.
Hundreds of copies have already been distributed throughout the United Kingdom, The United States and Australia. Scholars from the University of Cambridge and Goldsmith’s College at the University of London have praised Phillip’s work, declaring his book an essential read for people studying creativity and contemporary media practices.
Phillip hasn’t been deterred by the lengthy and nerve-wracking publishing process, with plans to produce more books in the future. “It is the first of many more hopefully. I’m actually putting the final touches to my second book about communication theory,” he said. “You have to strike while the iron’s hot” he added.
Copies of Phillip McIntyre’s Creativity and Cultural Production: Issues for Media Practice are available on campus at the Co-Op Bookshop and Auchmuty Library.
