Students get practical at ExperimentFest 2012

ExperimentFest went off with a bang at Callaghan last month when over 400 senior high school students took part in practical experiments designed to assist them with the HSC. Students got a feel for lab work and the University’s facilities by participating in hands-on experiments that ranged from testing the sodium in sports drinks to measuring oxygen saturation in blood.

Now in its eleventh year, ExperimentFest has been growing considerably and helps to cement classroom theories through selected experiments. During the week-long event, students donning lab coats and protective eye wear put theories from Biology, Chemistry and Physics to the test.  Experienced faculty staff and students provided valuable information and knowledge throughout the sessions, helping to build on the HSC syllabus.

ExperimentFest is an annual event organised by the University of Newcastle’s Faculty of Science and Information Technology, hosted at Callaghan and Ourimbah Campus. For more information, visit http://www.newcastle.edu.au/faculty/science-it/events-and-community/experiment-fest/
