Open Days come to a close
The University of Newcastle welcomed over 6,500 prospective students and their families during the Open Days held this month at Newcastle and the Central Coast.
Close to 1000 people attended the Central Coast Open Day on Saturday August 17 where they had the opportunity to attend program information sessions, facility tours and take part in activities at the Faculty expo stand which included beer goggles, an interactive microscopic display for Marine Science and strength testing for Exercise Sports Science.
A week later more than 5,500 people were on campus for Newcastle Open Day seeking information about our other programs. Faculty staff hosted potential students during talks, tours and in the Great Hall where our degree displays created a carnival atmosphere.
Staff, volunteers and ambassadors were kept busy answering questions and showcasing their area. Physics helped explain the science behind roller coasters while DCIT gave participants a virtual ride on one thanks to the Oculus Rift.
Soccer skills were tested, 400 bags of popcorn were consumed and those with an artful eye were treated to a gallery of student works on display on the stage.
Attendance was up 18% on last year and the day could not have been hailed a success without the staff and students who volunteered their time.
Thank you to all those who participated in both Open Days. Your assistance with these events is crucial to the ongoing success of the Faculty's programs.
