MAPS internationally recognised for innovative teaching

Dr Masoud Talebian from the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences has made the finals of an annual, international case competition.

The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Services (INFORMS) competition encourages the creation, dissemination and classroom use of new teaching materials in the areas of Operations Research and the Management Sciences.

Dr Talebian will be presenting his case study about Markdown Management that has been incorporated into the MATH3840 Optimization for Business and Industry course.

Developed in conjunction with Professor Garrett van Ryzin from Columbia University, Markdown Management focuses on the analytical aspects of designing markdown policies that represent real-world managerial consulting.

This is fantastic recognition of the quality coursework provided to students within the Bachelor of Mathematics.

Dr Talebian will present at the conference on Sunday October 6 in Minneapolis where a panel of judges will decide the winner.
