There’s a whole lot more to University than studying and assessments...
While it’s pretty easy to get wrapped up in the seemingly never-ending onslaught of uni work, it’s also important to take some time out and relax. There’s a range of different ways to get involved around campus and with groups within your Faculty. Check out some of the exciting opportunities in your area... it’s a great way to meet like-minded people and have fun in the process.

Engineering Postgrads Club
Established in 2009, the Engineering Postgrad Club organises a range of activities, such as parties, camping trips, picnics and sports, to help you get to know and spend time with other students. If you’re interested in joining, send your name, email address, date of birth and discipline to club convener Xiaoqian Ding (Zoe). Once your details have been received you’ll be added to their membership list and Facebook group.
NuChES
Nuches is THE social group for chemical engineering students, lecturers, staff and friends. The club holds regular events, including BBQs, the annual formal and the famous Hunt... check out the NuChES Facebook page for more on how to get involved.
Young Engineers Australia
Young Engineers Australia is currently the single largest sub group within Engineers Australia, with a membership base comprising of over 40,000 young engineers. The group arranges a range of events such as resume writing, presentation skills, discipline specific technical presentations and technical site visits. Membership also provides you access to the organisation’s huge engineering resource library and a chance to rub shoulders with industry leaders.

NUbots
The Newcastle Robotics Laboratory is an interdisciplinary research initiative of Computer Science & Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Statistics. Our robot soccer competition team - The NUbots - has participated at RoboCup regularly since 2002, have won world titles and are the 2011 Australian champions in the RoboCup Standard Platform League.
Students can get involved through summer scholarships, as well as postgraduate, honours, and final year projects. Watch the NUbots in action on YouTube and contact A/Prof Stephan Chalup via email stephan.chalup@newcastle.edu.au to get involved.

Formula SAE Team
The Formula SAE team conceives, designs, fabricates and races with a small formula style racing car in the SAE-Australasian Formula competition each year. A number of restrictions are placed on the teams so that the creativity, knowledge and imagination of the students are challenged.

Women in Engineering
Most people think that engineering is just for men but today women are challenging stereotypes and are making a significant impact on the industry. The campus Women in Engineering group hosts a range of fun activities assisting the establishment of support networks and communicates a variety of opportunities, such as seminars with female graduates and site visits.
