International Operations

An international experience

Welcome to The Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, which has as one of its key aims the development of our students' knowledge and expertise from a global perspective. Our approach is simple: to embed internationalisation within as much of our teaching and research activities as possible. For example, we endeavour to do so by:

  • Keeping abreast of international practices and issues within Engineering and Built Environment technologies
  • Providing international case studies and contexts
  • Undertaking overseas study and teaching exchanges
  • Promoting study abroad and exchange programs with our international partner universities
  • Promoting student investigation of international issues by requiring them to undertake assessment items and projects of global relevance
  • Emphasising the links between sustainable development and global perspectives
  • Promoting an international experience though invited guest lecturers and visiting Professors
  • Cultivating quality research skills

We strive to develop globally aware experts, who have a clear understanding of the need for sustainable development, and who will operate in their workplaces with a critical appreciation of the various global issues and processes occurring within dynamically changing environments: global citizens who are sensitive to cultural diversity.

World-class research standing and excellence in teaching

Our Faculty is acknowledged worldwide for excellence in teaching and research. For example, in 2006 and 2007, the renowned Shanghai Jiao Tong University Academic Ranking system placed our Faculty in the top 100 universities in the world for Engineering, Technology and Computer Sciences. This strong international reputation, along with our comprehensive study options, helps to attract a diverse range of high quality staff and students from many regions of the world.

Our academics are at the cutting edge of their fields of research and their strong research performance attracts high levels of funding and the latest in technology. The end result is that our staff, our students and our national and international visitors all benefit by having access to some of the best teaching, best researchers and best facilities nation-wide. Our international students enjoy the opportunity to study in a highly stimulating and safe environment.

International vision of a forward-thinking Faculty

Our international research links, our teaching partnerships and our study abroad programs are by no means peripheral activities. On the contrary, we appreciate that our international activities form a key part of our operations. They are important activities which will continue to develop and evolve as the world changes. Our Faculty has developed an institutional ethos which values internationalisation, resulting in a culture of shared values, contacts and expertise, together with an understanding of the benefits of international collaboration.

As a Faculty, we have a clear international vision, and we offer a place of opportunity to all current and prospective students. Whether you wish to broaden your mind, advance your career, increase your knowledge, or travel the globe, our Faculty can provide you with the opportunity and real life skills to do so!
