Renwick Centre Students Graduate

On April 4, the largest group of graduating students from the Renwick Centre stepped off the stage at the Faculty of Education and Arts Graduation Ceremony, this year's cohort takes our total number of Renwick graduates to 700. Dr Francis Gentle, a Lecturer in the area of Vision Impairment at the Renwick Centre was the occasional speaker for the ceremony. Dr Gentle was recently awarded the University of Newcastle Alumni Award for Regional Leadership in recognition of her work in the education and disability fields in the Pacific Region.

The Renwick Centre is located at North Rocks in Sydney and is Australia's largest and most comprehensive centre for professional studies and research in the education of children with sensory disabilities and associated disciplines.

For more than 20 years the University and the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC) have enjoyed a long and very successful relationship in the operation of the RIDBC Renwick Centre for Research and Professional Education.

The University of Newcastle through the RIDBC Renwick Centre is the only Australian provider of comprehensive higher degree programs in the area of special education for children with hearing and vision impairment and plays an extremely important national role in professional training, research, and scholarship in this low-incidence area of educational service provision.
