NeW Directions Update

Draft Faculty Corporate Plan 2014
The Faculty Leadership Retreat was recently held on 29th & 30th August. The aim of the Retreat was to finalise the draft 2014 Faculty Corporate Plan. The plan has since been submitted to the University Executive for endorsement, along with individual draft 2014 School Corporate Plans.

New Faculty Research Structure
An external review has recommended the 3 Faculty Research Institutes be dissolved and research activities be consolidated into one Faculty Research Unit. The new structure delivers greater potential to build research capacity and gives the Faculty flexibility and agility to respond to future opportunities. A key change will be a renewed emphasis on return on investment, as research funding will have performance outcome expectations aligned to UoN KPIs. The new structure will align with and leverage UoN institutes and clusters:

  • UoN Strategic Initiatives - Identified current and emerging areas of research strength.
  • Faculty Research Programs - Endangered Languages, Research Training and Transformational Knowledge, Social Work, Teaching Quality and Professional Leaning, Violence Studies.
  • Faculty Research Networks, Groups and Individuals - Emerging areas of research strength.

A copy of the Response to the Research Institutes Review is available on the Faculty Governance Blackboard site.

Update on Faculty Workload Model
The Faculty's new Academic Work Allocation Model (AWAM) aims to ensure an equitable and transparent method of work allocation that is easily understood by staff, is aligned to budget, facilitates staff performance and allows management of individual and School workload to meet the goals of the Faculty and the University.

The draft model was discussed at the Faculty Leadership Retreat and will be further revised and assessed prior to wider communication throughout the Faculty.

FEDUA Gender Equity Plan
The FEDUA Gender Equity Action Plan was also recently reviewed and updated at the Faculty Leadership Retreat. The Faculty has successfully met a number of important actions outlined in the plan. A copy of the updated plan is available on the Faculty Governance Blackboard site.
