FEDUA Students Excel
- Congratulations to University of Newcastle student Liesl Scheman who won the ‘People’s Choice Prize’ in the International Space Time Concerto Competition held on 2 December 2012. Liesl has also been awarded a University medal following her achievement of 1st Class Honours.
- Graduation at Port Macquarie was a wonderful event, with 37 graduates from Education and a significant number graduating With Distinction. Thanks to all staff that attended and helped make this a memorable event for the students and their families.
- Mr Jacob Neale, a 2nd year Bachelor of Music student, has been given a scholarship to travel to New York and participate in workshops with Stephen Schwartz, American musical theatre lyricist and composer of hit musicals including Godspell and Wicked.
- UoN Central Coast postgraduate student Katrina Martucci was awarded a National Council of Women Australia Day Award. The theme of the event was ‘Celebrate being an Australian’. Ms Martucci won a $1000 bursary for her PhD research that explores how picture books, created for pre-schoolers by Australian authors and illustrators, contribute to our understanding of the importance of early literacy experiences to a child’s learning outcomes.
- Fine Art student Shan Turner-Carroll has been selected to represent UoN in the National Graduate Show 2013 at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts in April. Shan is the 2012 recipient of the Jennie Thomas Travelling Art Scholarship and he leaves for a residency in Burma in late March.
