Supporting the Wellbeing and Safety of Our Employees

The University of Newcastle is committed to maintaining and enhancing fair, equitable and safe work practices and promoting positive relationships with its staff and students.

There are a number of services available to assist staff to reach their full potential, managed workplace issues as well as personal relationships.

Employee Assistance Program

In an effort to emotionally support our employees, the University provides an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to all staff.

The EAP offers a free and confidential professional counseling service to all employees, including:

  • Six free counseling sessions for personal or work related issues per patient each year
  • Face-to-face counseling during work hours or phone counseling 24 hours a day
  • Assistance to all employees and their immediate families
  • A completely confidential services
  • Information and advice services for managers and supervisors.

Complaints Resolution Policy

The University recognises an individual's right to make a complaint about University operations, services, staff, students or people associated with the University.

The Complaints Resolution Policy provides a single system to deal with all types of complaints, ranging from minor administrative matters to more serious deeply held grievances concerning unfair, unjust or unreasonable behaviour. The policy aims to ensure that complaints are addressed quickly, fairly and resolved at the lowest possible level.

Healthy UoN

Launched in May by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Caroline McMillen, Healthy UoN aims to enhance the physical, social and psychological health and wellbeing of the University community by promoting healthy learning, working and living environments.

Healthy UoN creates a platform to co-ordinate and to consolidate our health, safety and well-being initiatives and helps identify areas where we can improve.
