From the PVC

As we begin the new semester, it's time to reflect on what we have achieved throughout the first half of the year and to also look ahead at the 2013 Faculty Corporate Plan initiatives we need to focus on over the next 6 months.

The good news is there are 54 projects / initiatives that have been completed including:

  • The development of writing workshops and writing groups for staff and postgraduate students;
  • Extended support for Program Convenors through workshops, research funding, a recently held successful Retreat, and networking luncheons;
  • A research funding bonus scheme for RHD supervisors who's candidates finish their studies on time;
  • Expansion of the Visiting Fellowship scheme with a $50k budget allocated to allow greater support and longer stays by visiting scholars;
  • Addition of merit-based ECR fellowships to the Faculty Internal Fellowship Scheme;
  • And mentoring programs for first year students.

With only around five months left of 2013 it's also time to look forward to what we want to focus on and achieve in 2014.

At the end of August the Faculty Leadership Group will be reviewing our current progress with our Corporate Plan and key performance indicators in order to set the Faculty priorities (10-15 key initiatives) and create a Corporate Plan for 2014.

We'll also be tackling some hard decisions around what we'll need to stop doing in order for us to focus our resources on our priorities.

Following this we'll run another series of staff briefings where I welcome your attendance to hear about what's in store for 2014, and as always, I welcome your feedback at these events.
