Lecture & Celebration of Notable Journal Publication
Professor Harold Tarrant, formerly of the Discipline of Ancient History and Classical Languages (SHSS) will present a special lecture:
"Academies under Stress: Lessons from Antiquity for modern Higher-Education Institutions"
Professor Tarrant's lecture will be followed by a celebration of the publication of Marguerite Johnson's notable journal publication in the Classical Receptions Journal (OUP), as well as the joint book by Harold and Marguerite, "Alcibiades and the Socratic Lover-Educator" (London, 2012).

2013 Dietrich Bonhoeffer Conference

The 9th annual Australian Bonhoeffer Conference will be held at St Joseph's Spirituality and Education Centre, Kincumber NSW, on 14 and 15 November 2013. This year's conference will explore the theme: Hearing the Word, Acting in Faith.

Grotto Project 04: Exhibition & Performance
6pm - 13-15 June, 2013
The Grotto Project: Exhibition & Performance is an exciting extension of the Creative And Performing Arts (CAPA) program at the Ourimbah campus. The Grotto Project provides a safe environment for students and invited professional artists to trial specualtive and experimental approaches to art making with a public audience.
This even will commence at 6pm in the Fine Arts building with an exhibition titled Play With Colour. Curated by Karen Dimmock, this exhibition explores the idea of Colour across a variety of artworks presented by students and professional artists. Exhibition admission by gold coin donation.
At 7:30pom an eclectic series of short, innovative performance works developed by undergraduate students will be presented in the Drama Studio under the artistic direction of Dr Jocelyn McKinnon with technical assistance provided by Mr Leigh Collins. Performance Admission $5.00

Public Lecture - The Imposition of Western Epistemology on Education and Learning in the Global South by Professor Anders Breidlid

ANDERS BREIDLID is Professor in International Education and Development at Oslo University College. His recent books include: Education, Indigenous Knowledges, and Development in the Global South. Contesting Knowledges for a Sustainable Future, Routledge (2013); A Concise History of South Sudan (2010); and HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa (2009), UCT Press (with J. Baxen).

RHD Welcome Afternoon Tea

The Pro Vice-chancellor of FEDUA is hosting an afternoon tea for all our Faculty RHD students on the afternoon of 21 March 2013.
This newly established annual event is designed to welcome our new RHD students to the Faculty as well as celebrating the progress of our hard-working continuing RHD students.
Students who commenced in Semester 2 2012 and Semester 1 2013 will receive a pack containing information from the Faculty and Schools about completing an RHD within the Faculty of Education and Arts, as well as some extra “goodies” to help you study.
All attending students will go into the draw to win a $100 Westfield voucher.

NewMac 2013: The Macquarie and Newcastle Universities' Humanities Postgraduate Symposium

The NewMac Annual Conference is returning in 2013. With the guidance of a staff member, the conference is run by Humanities postgraduate students, for Humanities postgraduate students, from the Universities of Newcastle and Macquarie in conjunction.
The conference is hosted by The University of Newcastle. In 2013, the conference will again be held at our University here in Newcastle, on Saturday 2nd March, 2013.
Registration cost is $15 and includes morning tea and lunch.
