Research Initiatives for 2012 and 2013 Summary

These research initiatives have been developed out of the ideas and suggestions put forward at the Faculty Retreat in February 2012, revised in the light of discussions at Faculty Executive on 11 April, the Faculty Forum held on 1 May, and Faculty Executive on 2 May.

The proposed initiatives have been developed to enable the Faculty to meet the changing demands both within the university and the sector as a whole, in particular the university's intended shift to measuring and rewarding research according to designated KPIs. There are five research KPIs of which four feature in the initiatives discussed below - see the summary table. The details of targets for each KPI have yet to be finalised by the university. However, it is very likely that the Faculty will have to increase its performance significantly to meet these new targets. It is also now the university view that all academic staff will be engaged in research.

The initiatives below reflect the current Key Objectives of the Faculty's Strategic Plan, but are designed to enable the Faculty to re-align its current Strategic Plan with the university's changing research management priorities. At some stage the Strategic Plan will have to be revised accordingly.
