Priority Research Initiative Scheme

As a result of discussion at the Faculty Research Retreat in February and subsequently the Faculty has decided to establish in 2012 five competitively funded Prioritised Research Initiatives (PRIs). Each PRI will be tenable from 3 September 2012 for up to three years. Funding beyond the first year will be subject to satisfactory performance in meeting each PRI's stated research goals.

The PRI Scheme has several over-arching and inter-related objectives:

  • To promote sustainable high quality research of international standing
  • To create a number of collaborative research teams around a specified area of research that will be capable of becoming self-funding by the end of the three year grant period
  • To contribute to a realignment of the Faculty's research outcomes with the university's research KPIs
    • Increase competitive research grant income
    • Increase the number of quality international collaborative research relationships/agreements
    • Increase international co-authorship as % of total research publications.

Each PRI will build on existing research strengths, or develop emerging areas, or establish new ones (or some combination thereof), and will also encourage/facilitate national and international collaborative research activity
