September

Faculty Staff, Student and Family International Sports Day

On 18 September 2010 the Faculty held a Staff, Student and Family International Sports day. The day was a great success with over 25 students from the Sydney presence attending. On seeking feedback from students regarding their overall rating of what they thought of the event - 90% of students rated the event 8 and above (1 being poor and 10 being excellent).

The Faculty held a welcome/enrolment session for commencing articulation students in Semester 1, 2010

On 1 April 2010, staff from the Faculty's Internationalisation Unit had a very successful visit to the Sydney precinct, where the team met with the Director and hosted a lunch to welcome international students to the Faculty.

The Faculty hosted a dinner for visiting Doctor of Business Administration Graduates on Friday, 9 April 2010.

The Faculty attended the Philippine AusAid Graduation Ceremony, which was held on 21 April 2010 at the SMX Convention Centre, Pasay City, Manila.

On 27 April the Faculty held a very successful morning tea/information sessions for ELICOS students, who will be commencing their studies with the Faculty, in the near future. Over 100 students attended the function. Faculty Program Officers and Program Convenors also attended the morning tea and assisted with addressing various student enquiries.

February

On 23 February 2010, the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Head of Faculty and Assistant Dean, International attended the Civic Reception, hosted by the Newcastle Lord Mayor, to welcome International Students of the University of Newcastle.

2009

Student/Staff Lawn Bowls Social Event
On Thursday, 8 October 2009 the Faculty held a Students/Staff Lawn Bowls Social Event at Heaton Birmingham Gardens Bowling Club, Jesmond. The events was a success with students and staff having the opportunity to learn how to bowl and interact with each other outside the classroom.

Multicultural Night
The coursework masters students supported by our administrative and academic staff in the City, organised a Multicultural Night in the Conservatorium of Music attended by over 220 students and staff.

The Federal Member for Newcastle, the Lord Mayor, CEO of the Hunter Business Chamber and International Assistant Deans from other Faculties attended the function. Both Sharon Grierson and John Tate spoke strongly about the importance of international students to the City and their commitment to ensure a safe living environment.

The Multicultural Night forms part of the Faculty's commitment to diversity, which recognises that international students enrich our Teaching and Learning and Research. Most importantly, the Night was fun, with entertainment by our students and an opportunity to sample a wide range of different types of food.

2008

Multicultural Night
On 7 September 2008 a multicultural night was organised to celebrate the Faculty's commitment to cultural diversity. Students, staff and internal and external stakeholders attended the function.
