Lucy Mentoring Program 2012 - Session II
The Lucy Mentoring Program for 2012 concluded on Monday 10 September with a certificate awarding ceremony held at the Newcastle offices of Sparke Helmore Lawyers. This year 18 female undergraduate students enrolled in the Faculty of Business and Law successfully completed the Program which is now in its sixth year of operation at the University of Newcastle.
Some impressive presentations were delivered by the completing students who spoke about their work-based activity experiences. Professor Alison Dean, Head of Newcastle Business School and Ms Catherine Wilkinson, Local Managing Partner, Sparke Helmore Lawyers, Newcastle, welcomed the guests to the evening's official proceedings. Faculty Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Richard Dunford, addressed the gathering before handing over to guest speaker for the evening, Ms Kristen Keegan, the first female appointee to the role of Chief Executive Officer, Hunter Business Chamber.
Following the presentation of certificates by Ms Keegan, a speech on behalf of the completing students was delivered by Ms Aileen Phua. A third year combined Law and Business student, Ms Phua spoke of the opportunities that the Lucy Program offered to participants including assistance in determining future career paths, instilling confidence and invaluable work place experience. Long-time supporter of the Program, Ms Cas Scott, Direct Marketing Manager at Companion Credit Union, spoke on behalf of the mentors and encouraged the students to challenge themselves as they moved forward into the workforce. With the formalities concluded, the attendees had the opportunity to network and share their experiences.
