LUCY Mentoring Program 2013

Rugby League Development Program

On Wednesday, 18 September, 16 Year 10 and Year 11 students from Buladelah Central School and Gorokan High School visited Callaghan campus to participate in a Rugby League Development Program.

Hippocampus Project

Another Faculty first during the Create 2308 week was the Faculty's Hippocampus, a two metre high horse, painted in Chinese ming colours by Karen Tian and her students to represent the Faculty's interest in researching China and in being host to many Chinese students.

Research Showcase

The Faculty's annual Research Poster Showcase took an innovative turn this year. It was the opening event for week-long 'Create 2308 -Festival of Innovation and Creativity' and it was held at the University Gallery where it remains for a fortnight on exhibition.

Digital Talks - The Australian Retail Industry

The Faculty of Business and Law partnered with The Lunaticks Society, a digital business advocacy group for the Hunter, to hold a Digital Talks event focused on the changing nature of the Australian retail industry and the emerging trends/best practice from international retailers on multi-channel retailing.

Beyond Borders - Careers Seminar

Approximately 50 students attended this year's "Beyond Boarders" International Careers Seminar which was held on Wednesday 14 August from 12.30 - 3pm in the Treehouse on the Callaghan campus.

Nanjing Delegation

On 20 August 2013 the Faculty welcomed a delegation from NUFE. Areas of discussion included expanding our articulation agreement, student and academic exchange arrangements and proposed areas of joint research.

Dr Kevin Lyons Awarded

The Faculty of Business and Law would like to congratulate Dr Kevin lyons on being awarded for the category of 'Outstanding contribution by an Individual to Local Tourism' at the 2013 Qantas Link Hunter and Central Coast Tourism Awards which were held at Wests in New Lambton on the 14 August 2013.

Coal Seam Gas Research in Gloucester

Dr. Po-Hsin Lai lead a team of researchers from Newcastle Business School at the University of Newcastle and Department of Recreation, Park & Tourism Sciences at Texas A&M University who recently conducted a survey to explore the effects of coal seam gas (CSG) exploration and production on Gloucester residents.

Dr Sara Motta discusses the current crisis in Brazil

Dr Sara Motta, senior lecturer in Politics for the Faculty of Business and Law, has recently written two opinion pieces on the current civil unrest in Brazil. Both pieces, one in the Newcastle Herald, and another in Ceasefire Magazine, discuss the shifting political landscape in Brazil.

Senior lecturer in Politics Dr Sara Motta, editor of the new edition of Latin American Perspectives, Reinventing the Lefts from Below, recently appeared on a podcast discussing social movements in Latin America.
