Malaysian Scholarship Reception
A Recognition Ceremony hosted by Professor Stephen Nicholas, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Faculty of Business and Law, in honour of the fourteen (14) Undergraduate Malaysian Scholars was held on Wednesday 28 May 2008.
Those in attendance were Professor William Purcell, Pro Vice-Chancellor, International Division; Associate Professor Martin Fitzgerald, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Corporate Development and Community Partnerships; Associate Professor Amir Mahmood, Deputy Head of Faculty of Business and Law and Assistant Dean, International; Associate Professor Jim Psaros, Deputy Head of Faculty of Business and Law; Dr Mohd Nasir Abu Hassan, Director of the Malaysian Students' Department, Consulate of Malaysia and Mr Mohd Zuhir Abd Rahman, Education Attache, Malaysian Students' Department, Consulate of Malaysia.
The University of Newcastle, through its International Division, has provided funds for these Scholarships. The Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Business and Law has approved five (5) additional Academic Merit Scholarships to Malaysians for the July 2008 intake.
In his address, Professor Stephen Nicholas highlighted that the Colombo Plan was instrumental in building the strong people-to-people, business and education links which exist between Australia and Malaysia. He emphasised the importance of Malaysia in its internationalisation activities
