Joint Conference with the Institute of Management Technology
In February 2010 the Faculty co-sponsored the ICBIRD 2010 International Conference on Business and IT: The Contemporary Research and Development in India with IMT Ghaziabad and Beijing Foreign Studies University.

Lahore: The University of Newcastle, Australia, has established linkages with Pakistani academic and research institutions and launched a collaborative academic programme with a dynamic private sector University in Lahore.
Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Business and Law, University of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, Professor Stephen Nicholas held talks with the Federal Education Secretary, Higher Education Commission (HEC), Vice-Chancellor of University of Engineering and Technology and heads of various professional education institutions for greater strategic linkages between Australia and Pakistan during his four-day stay in Lahore and Islamabad.
Professor Nicholas extended University of Newcastle's assistance to the Pakistani universities and academic institutions in their capacity building, development of curriculum, faculty, teaching, learning and quality assurance mechanism.
Business Recorder has learnt that the Federal education Ministry and the Higher Education Commission welcomed the Australian university's offer, and assured the maximum cooperation in making the university’s programme of academic exchange, student exchange, joint research in business, management and economics a success.
Professor Nicholas also offered collaboration in the field of business and management, engineering, health science and information technology with the dynamic Pakistani education institutions.
He said that Pakistani students, undertaking the university's degree programme of Bachelor of Business, Commerce and MBA, would complete Part I in Pakistan and Part II in Australia.
After successful completion of the programme, the University of Newcastle would award the degree, he added.
A faculty member of the University of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, told this scribe that the university was a comprehensive and a research-intensive university with over 28,000 students, offering over 300 postgraduate as well as undergraduate programmes in various disciplines.
The Faculty of Business and Law, University of Newcastle has a well-established internationalisation onshore as well as offshore programmes.
The Faculty attracts students from over 30 countries and offshore programmes in Singapore and Hong Kong.
It has well established collaborative teaching and research links with academic and research links with institutors in Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong and China.
He said as a keen advocate and supporter of Pakistan's economic and social development, Professor Stephen Nicholas has bee instrumental in establishing strategic linkages with Pakistani academic and research institutions.
His recent visit to Pakistan was an effort to establish such teaching and research collaborative relationships with local institutions.
Joint Conference with the Institute of Management Technology
The Faculty of Business and Law participated with the Institute of Management Technology in a joint conference - "Innovation in Redefining Business Horizons". The Conference was held at the Institute of Management Technology, India on 18 and 19 December 2008.
Professor Stephen Nicholas, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Business and Law, co-chaired the Conference and members of staff from the Faculty presented papers.
Professor Peng Long, Vice-President of Beijing Foreign Studies University also presented a paper at the Conference as an invited guest of the Faculty.
High Commissioner of Pakistan Guest Lecture
On 22 October 2008, the High Commissioner of Pakistan, His Excellency Mr Jalani Abbas Jilani, visited the Faculty of Business and Law to present a guest lecture on Regional Security and Global Peace: Pakistan Perspective. During the High Commissioner's visit he also witnessed the Vice-Chancellor sign the articulation agreement between the Faculty and Superior University, Lahore.
Malaysian Student Scholarship Reception
Fourteen undergraduate Malaysian students receiving scholarships to study programs in the University of Newcastle's Faculty of Business and Law were recognised at a reception on Wednesday, 28 May 2008. The scholarships, awarded on the basis of academic merit, are funded through the University's International Division.
During the reception, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Business and Law, acknowledged the strong people-to-people, business and education links that exist between Australia and Malaysia.
Representatives from the Malaysian Student's Department, Consulate of Malaysia, Director Dr Mohd Nasir Abu Hassan and Education Attache Mohd Zuhir Abd Rahman, were guests at the reception.
