Articulation from TAFE to university is a common pathway that enables qualified people to obtain further qualifications and professional recognition. The Faculty of Science and Information Technology grants credit for TAFE studies in all its undergraduate degree programs. If you have a related TAFE diploma you would typically receive the equivalent of one year's credit in the University course. If your TAFE subjects or course aren't directly related to the University course, some credit may still be available.
The Faculty of Science and Information Technology does offer credit for incomplete TAFE qualifications. However, it is to your benefit to complete your TAFE qualifications for two reasons. Firstly, your UAI (University Admission Index) rank (which determines whether you will receive an offer to a course) will be normally higher for completed courses and secondly, you will gain more credit.
If you are a TAFE student wishing to apply for a course at the University of Newcastle and you also wish to apply for credit, the two applications are separate. Even if you have TAFE qualifications, and think you are eligible for credit, you must first gain entry to the University program.

Applications for credit can be made at anytime, even after you have started at the University. However, it's a good idea to know what you have to study at University before you begin. So you should apply at the same time you submit your UAC application. You can obtain application forms online or from the Faculty Office.
Credit for any course will only be granted provided that you:
