There are two types of rules that apply to all degrees offered at the University.
The Rules Governing Academic Awards and the Schedule for each degree form the complete degree rules. Where there is conflict between the Rules Governing Academic Awards and the Schedule, the Schedule takes precedence. The Rules and the Schedules are listed in the undergraduate and postgraduate handbooks.
For more information, including the lists of approved courses, refer to the Undergraduate eHandbook.
All students are responsible for their own program. This includes ensuring the degree rules are followed. All students, both commencing and re-enrolling, are welcome to visit the Faculty Office for advice during normal office hours or after office hours by appointment.
When selecting a program students must not choose:

It is your responsibility to ensure that you advise the University of Change of Address. Forms are available from the Student Services Centre or from the Faculty Office. Please check your Academic Program carefully and keep it in a safe place.
If you wish to change your program you should go to Online Enrolment and Course Variations.
In order to ensure that you are enrolled correctly and to avoid unnecessary HECS penalties, program changes must be made by the appropriate HECS Census dates as set out below.
You should mark these dates in your diary!
|
Addition of Courses by Friday of Week 2 |
|
|
HECS Withdrawal Dates |
|
Withdrawal without academic penalty is permitted during the period after the HECS census date and until the last day of teaching of the relevant semester, however a HECS liability is incurred.
The Faculty strongly recommends that you finalise your program for each semester no later than the end of week 2. If you need help to finalise your program, please contact the Faculty Office.
It remains your responsibility to ensure that your Academic Program is correct and conforms to program requirements. Failure to do so may mean that you will be unable to graduate at the expected time and you may be required to complete additional studies. If unsure, you can contact the Faculty Office for clarification.

If you are enrolling in a course offered by another Faculty, contact the relevant Discipline/School for tutorial allocation procedures.

The courses available to you will depend on the program in which you are enrolling.
Details about the program requirements can be obtained from the Undegraduate eHandbook section of the University website.
If you have applied for credit on admission, but you have not yet been advised of the outcome, you can still complete your enrolment and then vary your course selections later if needed.
If you have received written advice that credit has been granted and are clear about the courses in which you intend to enrol you should complete your enrolment but NOT include any courses for which you have been granted credit.

If you are enrolling in a generic combined degree program you should contact the Faculty Office/s involved and advise them of your desired combination.
The Faculty Office of Science and Information Technology may be contacted on 4921 5562 or alternatively, you are welcome to visit our office during normal business hours located in Room V19, Ground Floor of the Mathematics Building.
If you are uncertain about your program, you can visit the University on the HELP Day or alternatively you may wish to contact a staff member in the relevant Faculty Office for assistance.
For each course the Class Timetable firstly sets out the lecture times. The number of lectures you need to attend each week will vary between courses. Note that where "or" appears between two times, you need only attend one of the lectures - the second is a repeat of the first.
Almost all courses also have tutorials (and/or laboratories) which you are required to attend. Details are also included in the Class Timetable - the times appear under the lecture times. It is usually only necessary to attend one tutorial and/or laboratory per week per course.
Note that the listing of a tutorial or laboratory session at a particular time does not mean that it will be automatically available. It is important to select at least three possible alternative tutorial/laboratory times for each course in case the one you have selected is unavailable.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you do not have a timetable clash. If you have more than one class at the same time you will need to alter some of your selected times or, if necessary, change your course selection.
