UDRH / RCS

Welcome to the University Department of Rural Health (UDRH) and the Rural Clinical School (RCS). The UDRH and RCS has made it possible for undergraduate and postgraduate students studying either medicine, nursing, nutrition and dietetics, medical radiation science, physiotherapy, oral health, podiatry, occupational therapy, and pharmacy at The University of Newcastle to complete a large part of their education and training in a rural setting at one of our four locations Tamworth, Armidale, Taree, or Moree.

Luke Wakeley appointed as Lecturer in Physiotherapy

Mr Luke Wakeley has been appointed as a Lecturer in Physiotherapy based in the Emergency Department of Tamworth Hospital. This innovative position is funded by the UDRH/RCS in order to provide clinical placement opportunities as well as a clinical service role. Luke will function as an independent primary practitioner seeing patients with musculoskeletal injuries who present to Tamworth ED. The patient base will allow Luke to supervise students in physiotherapy and medicine in particular. Musculoskeletal and elective placements in physiotherapy will be available in what is an evolving and dynamic new role within the physiotherapy profession. Final year medical students in their Emergency/Orthopaedics rotation as well as MRS students will also provide a multidisciplinary flavour to the rotation. Luke brings a wealth of experience to the role having worked in outpatients, private practice and paediatrics in a 10 year career and has extensive student supervision experience.
