About the presenter:

John Shelby Spong is considered to be the pre-eminent voice of progressive Christianity by many, both inside and outside the Christian Church. A champilon of inclusive faith, his support for people of diverse backgrounds, or women and homosexuals earned him the Humanitarian of the Year Award in 1999.
A deeply committed Christian , his challenges to the Church have made him the most vilified of modern clergy. The target of hostility, fear and death threats for his outspoken views have caused some to call him anit-crist, hypocrite and devil incarnate. He confounds his critics however in his recent book :A New Christianity for a New World", by calling himself "a joyful, passionate, convinced believer in the reality of God'. with Jesus as his gateway to this reality.
Bishop Spong is the author of several best-selling books, including "Rescuing the Bible from Fundamentalism", "Why Christianity Must Change or Die' and his latest "Jesus for the Non Religious".
Since his retirement, Bishop Spong has taught at Harvard University and is sought world-wide for his articles, television and speaking engagements, where he draws capacity crowds. His impassioned call to us all is "to love passionately and live abundantly". His life with his wife Christine is a testament to this.
