| Description | Early Career Researcher Lunchtime Program 2013Good research has the ability to affect industry, policy and the daily life of individuals. So how do we connect what we do as academics and what we know, with how we want to live in the future? How do we apply creativity and rigor to reimaging problems to develop new ways of seeing and measuring impact while connecting beyond the academy. The Presenter
Professor Schultz began her career as a reporter with the ABC before joining the Australian Financial Review. She then moved to the University of Technology Sydney as head of the journalism program establishing the Centre for Independent Journalism. Her doctoral research grew out of her experience as a journalist and as a journalism educator and examined the contemporary relevance of notions of the press as the fourth estate. She has had extensive experience as a journalist, editor and media executive and has worked in universities for more than two decades. Since co-chairing the Creative Stream in the Australia 2020 Summit, Professor Schultz has taken an active interest in the development of cultural policy, and has been a member of ministerial advisory groups. This is her current area of intellectual focus with particular interest in the public policy levers available to build cultural resilience. Professor Schultz was made a Member of the Order of Australia for services to journalism in 2009 and elected an Honorary Fellow of the Academy of Humanities in 2010.
