|Description||This week athletes from 32 nations will compete in nine sports in venues across the Hunter as part of the Special Olympics 2013 Asia Pacific Games.
As a proud supporter of this event, The University of Newcastle encourages students and staff, and the local community to get involved in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and to cheer on the athletes, especially those competing right here on-campus.
The Forum's Sports & Aquatic Centre at the University of Newcastle (Callaghan) will host four sessions that include more than 40 individual and team events in the aquatic competition on Monday 2, Tuesday 3, Thursday 5 and Friday 6 December. The Forum is also the host venue for the Badminton competition which will include individual and doubles events on the same days.
Normal parking fees at the University have been waived during the Games. All the events during the Special Olympics are free for spectators and volunteers. More than 100 registered volunteers will be working at The Forum throughout the week.
Other competition sports held in venues across the Hunter include athletics, basketball, bocce, cricket, football, table tennis and ten pin bowling.
