Professor Catherine Coleborne is the Head of School of Humanities and Social Science / Dean of Arts at the University of Newcastle, Australia. She writes about the often sad stories of the families who arrived in the colonies and their sense of both dislocation and optimism, and about 'family' itself. She is author of a range of books, including Insanity, Identity and Empire (Manchester University Press, 2015).

Dr. Nancy Cushing is Senior Lecturer and head of history at the University of Newcastle, Australia. Her PhD examined the cultural imagery of Newcastle and she has published two books on the history of the city: Radical Newcastle (2015) co-edited with James Bennett and Erik Eklund and Smoky City: A History of Air Pollution in Newcastle (2015) co-authored with Howard Bridgman.
