Linguistics Seminar Series: Aslak Olesen
Come along to a free seminar on an endangered language of the Cook Islands.
Aslak Olesen will present a fascinating talk on how this language fits into the Polynesian family, entitled ‘The language of Manihiki and Rakahanga and its position within Eastern Polynesian’.
Aslak holds an MA in Linguistics from the University of Copenhagen. He has conducted fieldwork in the Solomon Islands as well as in the Cook Islands, and is currently engaged in writing a grammar of the language spoken on the islands of Manihiki and Rakahanga in the Cook Islands.
Refreshments available afterwards. All welcome.
The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
