Wear it Purple Day

Wear it Purple Day

Now in its tenth year, the Wear it Purple Day international movement was started in Australia in response to stories of young people who are diverse in their sex characteristic, gender and/or sexuality (LGBTQIA+) facing heartache and discrimination from the lack of acceptance of their sexuality or gender identity.

The premise is simple – wear purple for the day to celebrate, express support and acceptance to rainbow young people – bring them some sunshine!

If you don’t have purple clothes or accessories, head to Bar on the Hill on Thursday 27th or 28th August 10am - 12pm and get a branded wristband, buy a raffle ticket and a purple muffin to help the NTEU raise funds for the University’s Shaping Futures LGBTQIA+ Scholarship.

For those outside of Newcastle, we encourage you to wear something purple on Friday to show your support and solidarity!

There will also be a free webinar on Thursday 27 August from 3.30pm to discuss inclusion and inclusive learning environments.

We will be joined by Dr Barrie Shannon, Dr Jessica Ford, Ivy Scurr, Daniel McCarthy – Hunter Regional Manager ACON and President of UNSA Queer Collective TJ Hay and Kya Branch.
