Book Launch - "Our Voices: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Work"

An innovative book, Our Voices: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Work is being lunched at The Wollotuka Institute by Dr Tom Calma on 5th February at 1000.

The Wollotuka Institute is privileged to be launching an innovative book, "Our Voices: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Work". Dr Stephanie Gilbert and Karen Menzies, academics at The Wollotuka Institute have both contributed to the production of the book.

"Our Voices" is a ground-breaking collection of writings from Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous social work educators and students who, through a process of hypothesising, reflecting and evaluating, have built and acquired a tool kit of appropriate behaviours, interactions, networks and intervention. Sharing this tool kit means sharing the outcome of a methodical, informative and evaluative process that has been shown to work.

The book will be launched by former Social Justice Commissioner, Dr Tom Calma, an Aboriginal Elder from the Kungarakan tribal group and a member of the Iwaidja tribal group whose traditional lands are south west of Darwin and on the Coburg Peninsula in Northern Territory, respectively, former Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner and Chair of the 10 person Indigenous Steering Committee charged with establishing the new national representative body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
