World Class Learners: linking the future with the past

In this presentation, Professor Yong Zhao proposes a three component model of what world class learners will need in the future to be global, creative, and entrepreneurial learners. Using research from his latest book, World Class Learners, Yong will discuss a triad model to achieve these goals; personalized and strength-based student driven curriculum, product-oriented learning, and the globe as the campus. Indicators to assess if schools are creating the environments necessary to achieve these goals will also be discussed.

Yong was named one of the 2012 ten most influential people in educational technology by the Tech & Learn Magazine. He has a very open presentation style, asking many questions of the audience and allowing extensive time for Q&A.

YONG ZHAO is an internationally known scholar, author, and speaker. His works focus on the implications of globalization and technology on education. He has designed schools that cultivate global competence, developed computer games for language learning, and founded research and development institutions to explore innovative education models. He has published over 100 articles and 20 books. He currently serves as the Presidential Chair and Associate Dean for Global Education in the College of Education, University of Oregon, where he is also Weinman Professor of Technology and Professor in the Department of Educational Measurement, Policy, and Leadership.
