2012 Alumni Lecture (formerly Convocation Lecture)

Hear Professor Caroline McMillen discuss how the health and nutrition of a mother may alter the metabolic health of her children.

This lecture will showcase the research work of Professor McMillen, who was recently appointed to the University of Newcastle as Vice-Chancellor.

She is internationally recognised for her research into the impact of the nutritional environment before birth and the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and obesity in adult life. Maternal obesity is associated with an increase in the risk of the development of obesity for her baby and this risk may continue through childhood and later life.

Professor McMillen will discuss how the health and nutrition of a mother can have a significant impact on the metabolic health of her children.
