Volunteering with Hunter Life Education
For years Hunter Life Education has relied on volunteers like Newcastle university student Amy Avery as the driving force behind their fundraising activities, which aim to fund the education of the Hunter's children and young people about healthy lifestyle choices.
Ms Avery has been a volunteer in the events/marketing department during the months in the lead up to the World's Biggest Car Boot Sale after hearing about volunteering options at the University's Vacation and Volunteer Expo in August.
"I was looking for a way to practice the skills I am learning at university whilst also giving back to the charity that taught me a lot as a child," Ms Avery says.
"Volunteering can also be a great way to meet new people, and for people like me, be a great way to network within this industry and increase the diversity of my resume and set me apart from others in my industry."
Organisations looking for volunteers like Amy can register on the University's CareerHub advertising system, with listed jobs visible to thousands of students and graduates within a day.
The 2012 World's Biggest Car Boot Sale is a major fundraising activity for Hunter Life Education. With over 400 stall holder sites, shoppers are sure to find something they love. Other attractions such as Healthy Harold Zone, NBN's Big Dog and rides for the kids make the event a great family day out.
The 2012 World's Biggest Car Boot Sale will be held on Sunday the 25th of November from 9am till 2pm at Hunter Stadium, New Lambton. For more information about volunteering at the World's Biggest Car Boot Sale, email hunter@lifeeducation.org.au or phone 1300 554 246.
