Do you want more experience in the fields of childcare, disability, health and/or recreation? The MPS Society is looking for more volunteer carers to join their team during the National MPS Conference. If you love kids and are good at having fun, they want to hear from you.
The National MPS & Related Diseases Conference is being held at Point Wolstoncroft Sport and Recreation Centre in Gwandalan from 8-10 March.
MPS (mucopolysaccharidoses) are very rare genetic diseases that cause a wide range of disability from mild to severe, yet are always progressive and life threatening. The conferences bring families, specialist doctors and researchers together from around the country to share much needed information. The Conference aims are to provide education and support to families; promote partnerships between families and practitioners; and strengthen a sense of community.
While the parents and professionals are involved in seminars the kids affected by MPS and their siblings have lots of fun on the kids activity program, supported by a wonderful team of volunteer carers. Frailer children and babies/toddlers are cared for by volunteers in creche.
Carers can attend for the whole weekend or just one day, depending on availability. Alternatively carers can volunteer Friday or Saturday evening. Accommodation and meals are provided.
Successful applicants will undergo a Carer briefing and provided with detailed information about MPS, Camp program and the child or children they will be working with. It is a prerequisite that all people interested in becoming a carer at the MPS Conference agree to a phone check of referees and complete avolunteer declaration.
