The 2012 Times Higher Education World University Rankings are the last of the major independent international rankings of universities released each year and are the only global university performance tables to judge world class universities across all of their core missions.

The Times Higher Education world rankings evaluate universities across five areas – teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook. It is in the area of industry income, which measures research income from industry partners, that the University of Newcastle has performed particularly well, ranking second in Australia.

This result is significant, as Vice-Chancellor, Professor Caroline McMillen explains, “Industry partnerships underpin much of the world-class research that the University of Newcastle undertakes. This strong result demonstrates that we are leaders in Australia in this important area.”

Professor McMillen said the University’s strong results in the 2012 rankings provided authoritative, independent evidence that Newcastle’s reputation as a world-class institution was building. Read more here.
