In 2011, photographer Hannah Rose rode a horse through Eastern Mongolia to shoot a project called The Last Nomad, exploring nomadic horse culture.

The project has been selected as a feature exhibition during the 2013 Head On Photo Festival in Sydney, with a selection of the work also to be featured in Take Magazine.

As one of the world's last nomadic cultures, Mongolia has always called to Hannah.

"The deep connection with horses - a partnership lived out in undoubtedly some of the wildest and most spectacular environments on the planet - makes Mongolia so irresistible to me," she says.

Hannah's photographs depict a country that is "shared, and protected, a nomadic lifestyle which moves with the seasons, a product of shamanic beliefs with horses at the epicentre of life."

In 2010, Hannah shot The Empire, a social reportage of homeless subculture in Newcastle. Images from the work were finalists in the National Portrait Prize that year, as well as runner-up in the Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize. Hannah was awarded the Emerging Editorial Photographer of the Year by Australian Commercial & Media Photographer's Association and Trampoline 2010, and presented the work at the Australian Centre for Photography and Reportage Projections 2010.

Hannah graduated from the University of Newcastle in 2008 with a Bachelor of Communication (Media Production) with a focus on documentary video production and journalism.  She currently shares a studio space in Newcastle with fellow photographer Simone Darcy, running workshops and community events around photography as DARCY+ROSE.

The Last Nomad will be Hannah's first print exhibition. It will also feature at this year's Reportage Projections which will be part of the Vivid Sydney 'Light Walk'.
