PlusPod Design Competition

Students’ Pod Designs Pop Up in Newcastle

A PLUS POD Design Competition has been run for students in the Master of Architecture course to design pop-up structures for catering businesses during the DESIGN+ festival to be held in Newcastle this weekend.

DESIGN+  is Newcastle's inaugural Interiors and Design festival, held over two nights and one day, on the 6th and 7th of September. The event will include an outdoor public gathering space that will be offering food and refreshments.

The competition winners are currently working on site with tradespeople on the construction of their structures. Finalist submissions will be displayed at the inaugural Pecha Kucha evening on Friday 6th. The winning project will also be used as a bar at the Pecha Kucha event on the evening of Friday 6th September.

The students have benefited from this a unique opportunity to gain knowledge of new, dynamic and sustainable lightweight materials; the experience of building their own project; and the satisfaction of seeing their designs in use at this dynamic event.

The competition winner is Francisco Carbajal. The highly commended submissions, which are also under construction, are from Michael Papadopoulos, "UN-ROADWORTHY", and Michael Hong, Emma Foster and Elise Honeyman.
