Juliet Clark established the Seascape and Beyond Art Exhibition in 2010 to raise funds for research into depression and suicide prevention after the tragic suicide of her daughter's friend Kavitha Collard in 2009.
Now approaching its fourth year in 2013 as a community and professional artists' exhibition, Seascape and Beyond is raising funds for beyondblue. Also, for 2013 they have pledged $5,000 to the University of Newcastle to create an Honours Scholarship in Mental Health Research - Suicide Prevention.
The Seascape and Beyond Art Exhibition is an expression of hope and healing through art. All works in all mediums are for sale. The first exhibition in April 2010 hosted 27 local artists. Opening night drew a capacity crowd thanks to the generous support of the local community and the Merewether Surf Life Saving Club. Each year the number of artists and attendees has grown.
Dr Keith Harris from the University's School of Psychology will be guest speaker at the exhibition's opening night on 22 March. Dr Harris has been active in the field of Suicidology since 2005, is a member of the International Association of Suicide Prevention (IASP), the International Academy of Suicide Research (IASR), the American Association of Suicidology (AAS), and the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS).
Door entry to Seascape and Beyond is a gold coin donation. There will also be a raffle, with prizes with a 'Health and Lifestyle' theme.
