School Students to See the Big Picture at Cooks Hill
Public Schools NSW will be opening an exciting and innovative schooling design with a Big Picture Campus operating at Cooks Hill in 2014.
Enrolling for Years 9 and 10 for 2014, the Cooks Hill Campus offers a new learning opportunity for high school students in our region. Information evenings will be held in August and September for interested families.
The new campus uses the Big Picture framework to educate one student at a time. Students all have a personal learning plan which is based on their specific interests, developed with input from the students, their advisor and parents.
Each student works two days a week in an interest based internship with a mentor from the community on an intellectually rigorous project connected to their learning goals. Big Picture also encourages families to take an active role in their children's education - participating in orientation meetings, helping develop and review Individual Learning Plans and attending exhibitions and school functions.
The school seeks students who are motivated, self-reliant, aspirational learners, and who would like to re-engage with learning in a smaller setting. The goal is to have all students graduate and continue to further education.
Expressions of interest forms can be downloaded online, and must be submitted to the Department of Education Communities (Attention Tracey Breese PO Box 82, Adamstown 2289) by Friday, 27 September 2013.
