
Public Talk - Arson About: Legal and Policing Perspectives on an Enigmatic Crime
On Thursday 23 May, Associate Professor John Anderson from Newcastle Law School will be giving a public talk at Newcastle Museum.
The talk, titled 'Arson About: Legal and Policing Perspectives on an Enigmatic Crime', is part of the current exhibition of The Force: 150 Years of the NSW Police Force.
Professor Anderson will be discussing some aspects of his legal research into the crime of arson, including recent cases of Brendan Sokaluk and the 'Black Saturday' bushfires in Churchill, Victoria as well as Roger Dean and the nursing home fire at Quakers Hill, NSW. Professor Anderson will also discuss some significant policing issues in relation to the difficulties of investigation, the low clear-up rate of arson offences, profiling arson offenders and strategies for the future.
This is a public event. Admission is $10 per person, which includes a glass of wine.
