Public Lecture: Narratives of NAPLAN
The University's Educational Research Institute Newcastle (ERIN) invites you to a public lecture by Dr Greg Thompson from Murdoch University. Dr Thompson will present Narratives of NAPLAN on Tuesday, 27 November.
Standardised tests like NAPLAN are not new phenomena in schools; however, this lecture argues that there is an intensification in the impact of these testing choices on school communities. Critics of standardised testing in general, and NAPLAN in particular, argue it has a negative effect on schools and learning.
This lecture will report on teacher perceptions of the impact of NAPLAN on their classrooms and schools in WA and SA. This is part of a broader research focus that proposes to hold those practices of 'accountingization' embedded within much contemporary education policy to account through collecting accounts of the micro-political effects of macro-political educational reform agendas.
This lecture is open to the public. Admission is free.
WHEN: 27 November, 5.00 - 6.30 pm
WHERE: University Art Gallery
