Professor Imelda Whelehan from the University of Tasmania will be presenting a free public lecture titled Is the Future Feminist? Reflections on the Return of the Second Wave of Feminism at the University of Newcastle's Central Coast Campus on 27 August.

Professor Whelehan is Research Professor in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Tasmania, and recognised for her research in the fields of women's writing, feminism, popular culture and literary adaptations.

Professor Whelehan is the author of Modern Feminist Thought (1995), Overloaded: Popular Culture and the Future of Feminism (2000), Helen Fielding's Bridget Jones's Diary: A Reader's Guide (2002) and The Feminist Bestseller (2005), as well as the co-author of Fifty Key Concepts in Gender Studies (2004) and Screen Adaptation: Impure Cinema (2010) and co-editor of Adaptations: From Text to Screen, Screen to Text (1999) and The Cambridge Companion to Literature on Screen (2007).

She is co-editor of the journal Adaptation and Associate Editor of Contemporary Women's Writing.
