
General Competition Rules
1. GENERAL COMPETITION RULES
1.1 These General Competition Rules apply to all University of Newcastle, Community Engagement competitions. In conjunction with the General Competition Rules, all University of Newcastle, Community Engagement office competitions will also be subject to specific terms and conditions of entry ("Specific Competition Rules"), which will be posted on the Promoter's web site: www.newcastle.edu.au//engage/ ("Web-Site") and may also be made available by other means.
1.2 In the event of any inconsistency between the General Competition Rules and the Specific Competition Rules, the Specific Competition Rules will prevail.
1.3 Submission of an entry into a Competition by the entry method specified in the Specific Competition Rules is deemed to be entry into the Competition. Submitting an entry into a Competition is also deemed to be acceptance of, and agreement to be bound by, the General Competition Rules and the Specific Competition Rules.
2. STANDARD TERMS
2.1 Information on how to enter forms part of the terms of entry.
3. WHO CAN ENTER?
3.1 Subject to clause 3.2, entry is open to all residents of New South Wales only.
3.2 Employees and their immediate families of the University of Newcastle, and their associated agencies and companies are not eligible to enter.
4. COMPETITION
4.1 The competition will be conducted during the Competition Period and will follow the entry method as specified by the Community Engagement office. To enter the competition, entrants agree that to be eligible, they must follow the entry method as specified by the Community Engagement office, during the Competition Period.
4.2. The competition will be drawn and/or decided at the time, on the date/s and at the location/s as specified by the Community Engagement office. The prize/s will be awarded to a valid entrant/s (as applicable) who are randomly drawn in accordance with the details specified by the Community Engagement office regarding how the prize/s will be awarded.
5. PRIZES
5.1 In participating in the prize/s, the winners agree to participate and co-operate as required in all editorial activities relating to the Competition. The winners agree to grant
the Promoter a perpetual and non-exclusive licence to use such footage and photographs in all media worldwide and the winner/s will not be entitled to any fee for such use.
5.2 If a winner of the prize is under the age of 18 as at the date of the draw, an adult must accompany the minor in the participation of the prize.
5.3 Prizes cannot be transferred or redeemed for cash.

6. NO LIABILITY
6.1 In the case of the intervention of any outside act, agent or event which prevents or significantly hinders the Promoter’s ability to proceed with the competition on the dates and in the manner described in these terms and conditions, including but not limited to vandalism, power failures, tempests, natural disasters, acts of God, civil unrest, strike, war, or act of terrorism, the Promoter may, in its absolute discretion, cancel the competition and recommence it from the start on the same terms and conditions.
6.2 The University of Newcastle will take no responsibility for prizes damaged or lost in transit, or late, lost or misdirected mail.
6.3 The University of Newcastle will not be liable for any misadventure, accident, injury, loss or claim that may occur:
a) during the draw;
b) whilst undertaking any activity in or connected with entry into the draw;
c) in the participation in any prize;
d) as a consequence of late, lost or misdirected mail;
e) due to the broadcast of any program relating to the competition or the publication of any material, including any statements made by any compere, staff member, journalist, other entrants or any other person;
f) in relation to the failure of an entry to be received by the Promoter due to technical problems or traffic congestion;
g) arising from or related to any problem or technical malfunction of any computer equipment, software, internet connection, any injury or damage to an entrant's or any other person's computer software related to or resulting from participation in this competition;
6.4 The University of Newcastle assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries, and reserves the right to take any action that may be available.
6.5 If for any reason a competition is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of the Promoter, which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this competition, the Promoter reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, to take any action that may be available, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition.
