Free Public Lecture - 'You Have to Let Out the Scream'
The University of Newcastle's Humanities Research Institute presents You Have to Let Out the Scream - a free public lecture by the University of Sydney's Professor Peter Read. Professor Read examines the circumstances leading to Kevin Rudd's apology to the Forgotten Australians and traces how the exhibition Inside: Life in Children's Homes and Institutions was conceived and the unforgettable result.
Australian Research Council Professorial Fellow Professor Read began his career in Australian Indigenous History, with a special interest in oral testimony. After working for some years with Aboriginal adults separated from their families, his interests have widened to include the history and meaning of Australians' attachments to sites and land.
